The “touch” of jellyfish. How to deal with it

They are the new inhabitants of our seas and we get used to them more. Because of unregulated fishing, which has wiped out most of their predators, the jellyfish have been green even in the Mediterranean and every summer they return to annoy our relaxing baths to the sea.

Someone calls them “bites” someone else “bites” of jellyfish, in fact it is only “touch” … a slight carezzina short but made with stinging tentacles that inject a poisonous substance in the body (lethal for small organisms marine, harmless but terribly painful for us men).

If you get touched by a jellyfish, first of all keep calm. The panic, especially in water, is dangerous! Go to the bank and contact the lifeguard or the nearest pharmacy to make you spread the gel on the irritated with aluminum chloride, the only really effective method. In the absence of this you can try to follow the old advice of wise old men (some rub the part irritated with ammonia or alcohol), or resort to some cortisone cream … but only in case of real emergency. Do not wipe the skin red sand, cloth or vinegar, which might worsen the situation.

Remember that fortunately, does not yet exist in our part of giant jellyfish (the Australian, able to kill a man with a light touch), so none of us runs a very grave danger in the water. However you should always use common sense. For example, if you suffer from allergies and are prone to anaphylactic shock always good to check that the sea is free of jellyfish before diving. And even if you are healthy like fish, in case of “encounters” with the jellyfish close out of the water immediately to avoid getting stuck in the pack. A jellyfish does not kill but the contemporary feel of a score of jellyfish can certainly send you to hospital!
