Ready for a nice trip to the mountains, the woods or on the banks of a stream? Ready to rock climbing and exploring caves on the slopes off the beaten track in search of adventure par excellence? Do not just think to the boots and hats but remember to bring with you all the necessary remedies against insect bites, irritation due to prickly plants … or snake bites.
Prudence is never too much, especially in summer when many types of snake come out and bother you a lot if disturbed in their preferred habitat. The Vipers (but not only!) Are a nightmare that can ruin a beautiful day and in severe cases, endanger life. There are antidotes have been tested by bringing in a vial, when you go on these trips … but soon it may even suffice for a cream!
At England, is developing a study for the production of an ointment that manages to retain the devastating effects of snake venom into the body, at least enough to allow us to reach more polished and efficient in the emergency room. Taking advantage of nitroglycerin, this ointment will slow the passage of much of the toxins of the venom from a bite to the general circulation of the blood. The product, which is already being tested on human volunteers, showed that the action of the poison is slowed by 15 minutes (in some subjects up to 50 minutes) before it starts to do damage. It will make it possible for rescuers to arrive in time to save the victim from certain death. Waiting for the experiment to become a reality, however … we recommend the medicine world’s cheapest and available to all: prudence!
